Welcome to the City of Lancaster's Community Events Calendar.
We are very excited to bring you all the community has to offer in one convenient location.

May 18, 2012 to June 21, 2012 • The Red Rose Art Exhibit
Shown at 201 West Gay Street, Lancaster, SC 29721
What is the Public Art Project: I’m Not Empty; I’m Full of Possibilities?
The big idea of the project is to promote Lancaster’s artist community and bring it out into the public realm. So often the public doesn’t understand visual art. We want to change that. First, by artists donating a design for the public to paint, with the theme “I’m Not Empty; I’m Full of Possibilities.” On the lawn of the Springs House, the public will be invited to paint the designs during the Red Rose Festival. Artists are encouraged to oversee and help the public with the painting. To promote their own work, artists are welcome to create their own work on the lawn and be available for questions.
What is the Red Rose Art Exhibit?
This year, in conjunction with Lancaster’s Annual Red Rose Festival, the City of Lancaster and LCCA are sponsoring an art exhibit for artists who participate in the public art project: I’m Not Empty; I’m Full of Possibilities. A percentage of any art sold by the LCCA during the exhibit will be donated to the LCCA, under their regular contract.
Artists who participate in the project may exhibit at least two (2) artworks in the exhibit. Participation includes designing a line drawing and transferring it in whole or in part onto a canvas or board provided by the City and Art Council. Theme of the drawing is: I’m Not Empty; I’m Full of Possibilities in the Red Rose City. The public will be invited to paint the design during the festival. After the festival, the painted designs will be hung in the window of empty storefronts with the permission of building owners.
In addition, participating artists are encouraged to create their own artwork on the lawn of the Springs House on Saturday, May 19th and to monitor the public painting of the project. If each artist spends an hour or two interacting with the public it will go a long way in advocating the arts in Lancaster and surrounding counties. Hours for the public art project are from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm.
What hours are the public art project and arts vendors on the Springs House lawn?
Saturday, May 19th, 2012 from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm
