Each year, numerous sewer stoppages are reported to The City of Lancaster.  The majority of these stoppages are a direct result of improper disposal of oil and grease in kitchen drains.  Grease congeals within sewer pipes, which causes wastewater to back-up into homes and businesses within the city.

YOU CAN HELP PREVENT COSTLY AND UNSANITARY OVERFLOWS DUE TO STOPPAGES BY FOLLOWING THESE FEW STEPS:

DO

Scrape excess grease into a container and dispose of it in the garbage.

Place food scraps in containers or garbage bags for disposal.

Promote scraping of cleaning utensils prior to washing.

Use a wastebasket in the bathroom to dispose of solid wastes.

Remember to:  Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle

DO NOT

Pour grease, fats, and oils from cooking down the drain.

Use the toilet as a wastebasket.

Use the sewer as a means of disposing food scraps.

Dispose of diapers through a toilet or sink.

REMEMBER YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
