On Sunday, May 5 at the historic courthouse and museum, the Lancaster County Historical Commission will host Jerry Marcus and Dorothy Pennachio, who will give a presentation about the historic Six Mile Cemetery. Located on Henry Harris Road in Indian Land, it is one of the oldest cemeteries in the county, dating back to the 1790s. A number of Revolutionary War and War of 1812 patriots lie buried there, and through the tireless efforts of local volunteers, this old burial ground has been cleared of massive overgrowth and preserved for present and future generations to walk and explore its hallowed grounds. Research is ongoing to identify and to mark graves, and a historical marker was recently approved by the South Carolina Department of Archives and History.

The presentation will begin promptly at 3:00 p.m. on the second floor of the historic courthouse.  Refreshments will be served afterwards by the Lancaster County Historical Commission.

The Lancaster County Historic Courthouse is located at 100 North Main Street in downtown Lancaster.
