Residential garbage containers are picked up weekly Monday thru Thursday. Please roll out your container to the curb in front of your house the night before your pickup day. Please place your container with the handles facing away from the street. Once your container has been emptied, please move your container back to your residence.
Commercial garbage containers are picked up Monday thru Friday.
The City of Lancaster also offers Recycling Bins to residents and Businesses within the city limits at no additional charge. Recycle bins are emptied every other Thursday, and should be rolled out the night before just as the regular container. A list of what to recycle as well as a schedule of pickup dates is listed below.
All paper – Cardboard – Junk Mail – Magazines – Phone Books – Cereal Boxes – Plastic Bottles (water and soft drink) and Jugs – Milk, Orange Juice, Fruit Drink Cartons – Glass Bottles and Jars – Plastic Toys – Plastic Yard Furniture – Plastic Milk Crates – Plastic Laundry Baskets – Plastic Containers (such as butter or margarine containers, yogurt and fruit cups) (No Foil Tops) – Plastic 5 Gallon Buckets (Remove all metal from bucket) – Aluminum cans (Soft Drink and Beer) – Soup Cans – Vegetable/Bean Cans.
Please empty and rinse all containers and flatten cardboard before putting items in Recycle Bin.
DO NOT RECYCLE:
Paper Plates – Paper Cups – Waxed Cardboard – Toilet Tissue – Window Glass – Ceramics – Plastic Bags – Plastic Films – Foil Yogurt Tops – Plastic Drinking Cups – Hardback Books – Styrofoam – Paint Cans – Medicine Bottles – Motor Oil – Hazardous Waste.
The City of Lancaster offers a backyard garbage pickup service for elderly (over 75 years of age) and disabled citizens.
Sway carts are offered to City residents to use once a month at no fee for household cleanup projects.
(NOTE: These are not allowed for contractors doing work at your home.)
The City of Lancaster offers roll off containers for large jobs that may require more than a normal garbage container. Disposal fees are based on tons, and a weekly rental fee is charged based on container size.
(NOTE: Business license and/or building permit may be required for use of roll off container.)
