You can help promote safety on your job and in your community by calling 1-888-721-7877. This toll free number is operated statewide by Palmetto Utility Protection Service (PUPS), a one-call system to improve community and job safety for contractors, construction personnel and the general public. One call will give you location information about underground member facilities when digging or excavating in South Carolina. The one-call system operates between 7a.m. and 7p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. Emergencies will be processed promptly.

ONE CALL FOR SAFETY!        THIS IS A FREE SERVICE!

The Underground Utility Damage Prevention Act: This law, passed July 19, 1978, established a one-call system and requires that anyone starting any work operation that includes excavating, boring, pile-driving, blasting or digging must report this information to area utility operators at least three working days in advance. A single call may be all that’s needed. Non-members must be notified individually.

You can dig it if you do the right thing first – call!

The Public Works Department is made up of several separate divisions working together to maintain the health, safety, and appearance of the community.

The Administrative Division coordinates the work of the other divisions and provides a central point of contact for citizen requests and information.

Wastewater Collection maintains the City sewer system using state-of-the-art equipment, such as remote video cameras, to inspect lines. Preventive maintenance also includes inflow and infiltration control and flushing lines. This division installs new lines and new and emergency replacement sewer taps.

The Water Service Division monitors water quality, installs main water lines and water taps, and performs preventive maintenance and repairs to ensure continued operation of the water distribution system.
